The San Francisco Giants were dealt a tough blow this past week as starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani underwent season-ending ankle surgery. The front office has wasted no time finding a bit more depth, though, making a trade with the Cleveland Guardians for young pitcher Tobias Myers.

Myers was acquired in exchange for cash considerations and optioned to Triple-A. The 23-year-old owns a record of 32-25 and an ERA of 3.76 in his minor league career. However, the 2022 season has not been a good one for him, considering he is 1-9 with a 6.00 ERA and 1.77 WHIP across 14 starts.

Meanwhile, DeSclafani was transferred to the 60-day injured list in order to make room for Myers on the 40-man roster. The eight-year pro was 0-2 on the season with a 9.95 ERA before the inflammation in his ankle became too much to bear. He is expected to be back in time for 2023 spring training.

It wouldn't be surprising to see Myers make his MLB debut this season considering starters like Jakob Junis and Alex Wood are also not 100% healthy. San Francisco owns the 10th-worst ERA in baseball (4.11) and cannot seem to find consistency outside of Logan Webb and Carlos Rodon.

For now, the Giants will continue fighting for positioning in the NL Wild Card race. They currently sit 1.0 game back of the final spot with a 44-40 record. Manager Gabe Kapler's team has odds set at +3800 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
