George Kittle just inked a huge new contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers, removing any room for concern around how that issue might affect his 2020 season.
Now he can be drafted even more safely as an elite tight end option and a second-round pick in fantasy football drafts.
George Kittle Fantasy Football Value 2020
Despite missing two games due to injury, Kittle finished second at the position in PPR fantasy production in the 2019 season. His 15.9 points per game were also tied with Travis Kelce for the most at the position.
Taking a deeper look, that 2019 production doesn't look to be anywhere near Kittle's ceiling.
To start with, he has very little competition for targets in the 49ers' offense. Emmanuel Sanders is gone after accounting for 11.3 percent of the Niners' targets. Deebo Samuel, who accounted for 17.3 percent, is dealing with a foot injury that could have him limited (or even sidelined) early in the season. No other player (outside of Kittle) saw even 44 targets in this offense last year.
Kittle soaked up 22.9 percent of the team's targets on the season, even though the two games he missed also happened to be the only two in which Jimmy Garoppolo recorded at least 40 pass attempts.
It's also going to be hard for the 49ers to be any more run-heavy than they were in 2019. They were one of only two offenses to run on over 50 percent of their snaps, and no team has done that in back-to-back seasons since 2014.
Garoppolo now finally has a full NFL season under his belt, he could very well be throwing the ball more, and Kittle has very little competition for targets. That's a perfect combination for another huge fantasy season from Kittle.
Kittle just barely misses beating out Travis Kelce, checking in at TE2 in our 2020 fantasy football rankings.
