The Miami Marlins are one of several clubs across MLB that need to fill a managerial opening this offseason. Miami has conducted a thorough search and brought in plenty of big names to interview.

Now it appears this team is on the cusp of finding its new voice in the dugout.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports Skip Schumaker, Joe Espada and Matt Quatraro are the three known finalists for the gig. However, there's a fourth "mystery candidate" also in the hunt. Heyman notes it's not Raul Ibanez, who removed himself from consideration due to timing.

Schumaker presents the prototypical former Major Leaguer option for Miami after enjoying an 11-year professional career. He brings valuable championship experience given he was apart of the St. Louis Cardinals' World Series-winning team in 2011. The former second baseman could inject some youth as well since he's the youngest (42) of the three known contenders.

Espada is one of the most in-demand candidates this offseason after several success years with the Houston Astros. He has obvious ties to the Marlins, whom he started his coaching career with in 2006 in the minors. Espada made it up the majors as the team's third base coach in 2010 and served in that role until he was poached by the New York Yankees.

Quatraro is another coaching prospect who looks poised to make the jump to manager. He's spent much of his non-playing career in the Tampa Bay Rays' organization before earning a promotion to bench coach in 2018 after Charlie Montoyo was hired by the Toronto Blue Jays.

With Heyman saying a decision is "expected soon", Marlins fans won't have to wait much longer to figure out who'll be the team's manager for 2023.
