The Atlanta Falcons' veterans will report to training camp on Tuesday, marking one step closer to the start of the 2022 NFL season. The Falcons hope they won't be as bad as some fans are expecting them to be and one way they can do that is by fielding a stronger defense than they did last year.

In an effort to improve the team's secondary, NFL insider Aaron Wilson reports that the Falcons will host two cornerbacks for a workout on Wednesday: former Hawaii defender Cortez Davis and ex-Pittsburgh Steeler DeMarkus Acy.

Falcons Roster News

When it came to passing defense in 2021, Atlanta was in the bottom half of the NFL. The Falcons surrendered 23.0 completions (No. 19) and 232.5 passing yards (No. 18) per game last season. In other words, it's unsurprising that they're bringing in some extra help.

Davis appears to have some solid upside after leading the nation with 18 passes defended last fall. He also recorded 48 total tackles, one interception and a forced fumble. His efforts earned him a free-agent contract with the Denver Broncos after the 2022 NFL Draft, however, he was later waived.

After signing a one-year deal with the Steelers last year, Acy missed the entire 2021 campaign after tearing his ACL during training camp. The 24-year-old spent 2016 to 2019 with the Missouri Tigers, tallying 99 tackles, 20 broken-up passes and three interceptions in 38 NCAA games.

Atlanta's CB room is currently led by Casey Hayward and 2020 first-round pick A. J. Terrell. Adding Davis or Acy to the mix wouldn't drastically change things, but more depth isn't a bad idea and either man could help the Falcons' pass defense be at least a bit better than it was a year ago.
