The New York Giants' target leader from last season is back.

Evan Engram has missed the first two games of the season with a calf injury, but he's expected to make his 2021 debut against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday after getting in a full week of practice. That makes him an interesting fantasy football option moving forward.

Evan Engram Fantasy Outlook

The Giants' offense already has plenty of competition for targets, but it's worth noting that Engram's 109 targets in 2020 led Darius Slayton (96) and Sterling Shepard (90) for the team lead. Even if we just look at the 12 games Shepard was healthy for, Engram averaged 7.4 targets per game (just shy of Shepard's 7.5).

The addition of Kenny Golladay to this offense further muddies the waters, but Golladay appears to be a legitimate game-time decision, opening the door for Engram to make an immediate impact.

It's also hard not to love Engram's matchup for his debut. The Atlanta Falcons allowed top-five fantasy production to opposing tight ends last season, and they're right back in that spot in 2021 after conceding a combined 6 receptions, 76 yards and 1 touchdown to Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert in Week 1 then 4 receptions for 39 yards and 2 touchdowns to Rob Gronkowski in Week 2.

Engram is still far from a top-tier option at the position, especially until we see how healthy he looks, but he's worth a gamble if you're thin at the position in Week 3.
