As the Oakland Athletics prepare to face the Texas Rangers on Saturday, the club will be without shortstop Elvis Andrus. Fortunately, the lineup change isn't injury-related. Instead, Andrus will miss the contest due to the birth of his third child and has been placed on the MLB's paternity leave list.

There's no telling how many games Andrus will miss, however, it's expected that he won't suit up for either game against his former team this weekend.

Oakland Athletics News

After spending the first 12 years of his career with the Rangers, Texas traded Andrus and catcher Aramis Garcia to the Athletics back in February in exchange for three players, including left fielder/designated hitter Khris Davis.

The 2020 MLB season was the worst campaign of Andrus' career, however, the change of scenery that a trade can bring has helped him bounce back. The two-time All-Star has played in 113 of Oakland's 116 games this year, putting up 19 doubles, 3 home runs and 28 RBIs. While his .231/.280/.307 slash line is far from the best of his career, it's an improvement over his one from last season (.194/.252/.330).

Even with Andrus set to miss Saturday's game, the Athletics project to be just fine without him. Oakland is favored to beat the Rangers at -220 odds, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, while Texas is the +184 underdog.
