Edge Rushers the Cowboys Must Target Now That Dante Fowler is Off the Market

The Dallas Cowboys are doing what they can to keep the team's most important players during this free agency period. However, they were not able to keep edge rusher Robert Quinn, who received a huge contract from the Chicago Bears. This leaves a big hole on the Cowboys' defense opposite of DeMarcus Lawrence.
Dante Fowler was viewed as one of the top edge rushers available, but with him headed to Atlanta, Dallas will need to look elsewhere. These are the three edge rushers the Cowboys must target.
1. Jadeveon Clowney
After being traded to Seattle last season, Jadeveon Clowney did not put up the numbers many expected. In fact, he totaled just three sacks during the regular season. However, he had the seventh best pass rush win rate among edge defenders, so the potential to be a monster is still there. Clowney also came up big in the playoffs, totaling 1.5 sacks, three quarterback hits and three tackles for a loss. If he were to play opposite of Lawrence on the Cowboys defense, they would be among the most feared pass-rushing duos in the league.
2. Cameron Wake
The 38-year-old veteran pass rusher can still contribute for teams, and he is likely to come with a fair price. He is just two seasons removed from a double-digit sack total, but he did finish with just 2.5 sacks in nine games last season. He would be a situational player, but Wake deserves a look from Dallas.
3. Pernell McPhee
Originally making a name for himself with the Baltimore Ravens, Pernell McPhee has bounced around in recent seasons. He is also coming off a season-ending injury in which he tore his triceps. McPhee's production has dipped, totaling just 3.0 sacks over the past two seasons, but he is still a big presence on the defensive line and can be a nice rotational piece for a good price in free agency.
