When the current offseason began, the Philadelphia Eagles made it a goal to improve on their passing game. After all, they ranked near the bottom of the league in passing yards per game with 207.9 last season. That's why it was a no-brainer for them to select Alabama Crimson Tide wideout DeVonta Smith with the 10th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Eagles fans got their first look at Smith on Friday at the team's rookie minicamp. Fortunately, he didn't disappoint at all, causing Philadelphia's coaching staff to leave glowing reviews about him. Head coach Nick Sirianni even went as far as telling reporters that the rookie wideout "catches everything."

Some NFL scouts were wary about Smith's size, considering he's just 6-feet tall, but the Eagles aren't worried. In fact, Sirianni went out of his way to applaud the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner for his efforts both on and off of the practice field.

"He's just out there and he just seems determined at all times, and he just really can't wait for the information to get to him and can't wait to get better. And I know that's contagious, the way he works and he's gone about the meetings. "

Nicknamed the "Slim Reaper" for his body and athleticism, Smith was an absolute beast with the Crimson Tide over the last two seasons. Since 2019, he turned 185 receptions into 3,112 receiving yards and 37 touchdowns. Smith already has a history with Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts after the two were teammates in Alabama from 2017 to 2019. If the two can rekindle their chemistry, Eagles fans are in for a treat.

Smith is currently tied with fellow wideout Jaylen Waddle for having the 9th-best odds to win the 2021 Offensive Rookie of the Year Award at +1700, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
