The Philadelphia Eagles are in need of a new head coach after parting ways with Doug Pederson . The team's relationship with Pederson rapidly declined, leading to the Super Bowl winner making his exit from Philly.
Pederson came to the Eagles from the Andy Reid coaching tree, and it seems like there's hope that Philadelphia will tap into that tree once again for their next head coach.
Eric Bieniemy Eagles
One thought after Pederson's departure is that Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy could fill the vacancy.
Bieniemy is one of the hottest names around the league as a potential head-coaching candidate. Kansas City's offense under Bieniemy, which has placed in the top 6 for yards and top 5 for points in each of the last three years, has been undeniably great, which should make him attractive to an Eagles team that is looking to return to prominence on that side of the ball.
Pederson was the Chiefs' OC before joining the Eagles, and Bieniemy could follow in that same path. Plus, Bieniemy played for Philadelphia in the final year of his career in 1999.
But he's not the only Reid disciple being linked to Philadelphia.
Mike Kafka Eagles
Current Kansas City quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka is also being talked about in regards to the Eagles' opening, which could be a bold move for Philly.
Kafka, too, is a former Eagle, playing in four games for the team in 2011. He has caught on with Kansas City as a QB coach and is expected to be a rising coaching talent.
Kafka is currently slated to succeed Bieniemy when he moves on to be a head coach, but if Bieniemy takes his time, another team could scoop Kafka up and give him the promotion he's sure to earn sooner than later.
It's certainly a risk for Philadelphia to hire a QB coach with little coaching years behind him to be their leader, although the move isn't too unfamiliar to the Eagles, who hired Green Bay Packers QB coach Andy Reid in 1999. That decision continues to impact the franchise to this day, so Philly can't rule out at least considering Kafka going forward.
