Dolphins Rumors Link Team to Elite Free Agent
The remaining big-name free agents on the market are expected to find new homes in the coming days with the Deshaun Watson trade saga over. Teams who still have cap space to burn after the initial frenzy, like the Miami Dolphins, are in great position to land the big fish still out there.
A new rumor suggests the Dolphins could make a splash by signing an elite free agent.
Terron Armstead Dolphins
The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson reports the Dolphins are currently in pursuit of offensive lineman Terron Armstead. The three-time Pro Bowl left tackle entered the offseason as a premier target for teams in need of help on the O-line this offseason.
No squad has more room for improvement on the offensive line than Miami. Their O-line was ranked dead-last by ProFootballFocus during the 2021 campaign.
Signing Armstead would immediately elevate this unit and give the Dolphins an achor. Injuries limited the LT to eight games in 2021, but he was coming off two of his healthiest seasons prior to that in 2019 and 2020.
His 2020 campaign was particularly notable, earning an elite PFF grade of 86.3 overall, including 87.1 in pass blocking and 77.5 in run blocking.
Upgrading the offensive line is a huge task for the Dolphins this season, both for protecting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and making sure new head Mike McDaniel can carry out his run-heavy offense. Armstead could be the missing piece to the puzzle.
