There's optimism buzzing around the Miami Dolphins after hiring Mike McDaniel as the team's new coach. McDaniel takes over after serving as offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers this past season, where he led a unit that went all the way to the NFC Championship Game.

Given his success in San Francisco, it was no surprise to see the Dolphins sign another former Niner in free agency on Thursday.

Miami agreed to a one-year deal with wide receiver Trent Sherfield, giving the Dolphins some added depth while bringing in a player McDaniel is very familiar with.

It's clear the organization is committed to bringing McDaniel's vision for this offense to life. Miami hired Wes Welker as its news WRs coach this offseason, the same position he held for the 49ers since 2019.

This is also the second former Niner signed by the Dolphins. Running back Raheem Mostert agreed to a deal with Miami on Wednesday as well.

The Mostert signing in particular seems to fit McDaniel's run-heavy offensive approach. He was the 49ers' RBs coach from 2017-2020 before being promoted to OC, which means he's worked directly with Mostert over each of the past five seasons.

Mostert enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2019 under McDaniel, rushing for 772 yards and 8 TDs. Though injuries limited the almost 30-year-old last season, he could find a sizable role if he regains his form.
