Charles Schwab Challenge Golf Picks 2022

Beyond the favorites are a number of dark horses who offer more value as capable contenders.

With longshots in mind, here are three dark horses that could make a run at the Charles Schwab Challenge leaderboard on Sunday or win the PGA tournament at Colonial.

2022 Charles Schwab Challenge Dark Horse Picks

1. Tommy Fleetwood (+3000)

Fleetwood finished T5 at the PGA Championship with a strong weekend after catching the tough end of the draw and weather on Thursday and Friday. He had his best week Tee-to-Green in nearly three years. Now the 31-year-old Englishman makes his debut at Colonial, but the course has the same designer as last week's Southern Hills CC. Fleetwood ranks top 5 in Strokes Gained: Total over his last 24 rounds with improved play and strength in Putting, Short Game and Around the Green play. With six International wins and so many close calls on Tour, Tommy can join fellow Englishman Justin Rose by winning his debut at Colonial.

2. Brian Harman (+6500)

The short-hitting Harman is one of the most accurate players from the tee on Tour. That's important at Colonial with narrower fairways. Harman likes the course and its fit, as he's finished top-10 three times in the last seven years in the tournament. That includes last year when he finished T6 at 6-under par despite a even par 70 on Sunday. Harman's Ball Striking, Tee-to-Green and Approach play have been solid his last two events, including when T9 at the Wells Fargo Championship with similar bentgrass greens.

3. Tyler Duncan (+42000)

Dig deep for this dark horse. Tyler Duncan is also one of the most accurate golfers from the tee on Tour, and he'll enjoy returning to Colonial where he opened the 2020 tournament with a 65 and finished T38 against a stronger field. Duncan's weakness is Around the Green and Putting. But he was only average putting at the shot-shaping course at Harbour Town in April when finishing T12. Duncan is worth a top 20 bet or even a top 10 near 40/1 if you choose.
