At one point in free agency, it looked like Darius Slay and the Philadelphia Eagles would be breaking up. However, the two sides eventually hammered out a new contract to keep the perennial Pro Bowler in town.

It turns out Slay was very close to signing with a different team in free agency, though.

Slay revealed he and the Baltimore Ravens had serious mutual interest. Baltimore even offered the stud cornerback the exact deal he was looking for, but he gave Philly the chance to match it, which led to his return.

It's scary to think about Slay ending up somewhere else this offseason. The Eagles' Super Bowl defense has seen a few important players depart in free agency, and it appeared Slay was going to join them after the news of his pending release came out.

His return though, alongside several other veterans, has this team optimistic about contending once again in 2023. Philadelphia will now look to make a return trip to the Super Bowl with much of its league-best defense intact following the offseason.
