D.K. Metcalf Projected for Massive Next Contract After Stefon Diggs Extension

Another star wide receiver got paid on Wednesday, as the Buffalo Bills signed Stefon Diggs to a four-year, $104 million extension. The big money going to top players at the position this offseason has prompted questions about the future of some rising talents at the end of their rookie deals, like Seattle Seahawks stud D.K. Metcalf.

It turns out the Diggs deal will have a great effect on Metcalf and the other wideouts looking to cash in.

The 2020 Pro Bowl selection is now in line for a hefty pay day following news of Diggs' lucrative extension. Spotrac projects Metcalf at a four-year, $97.1 million deal for his next contract given his age, performance and current market value of $24.3 million per season.

That calculated value places him fifth in the league among WRs, only behind Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, DeAndre Hopkins and Stefon Diggs. Metcalf also has age on his side, as he'll be just 24 years old entering the 2022 campaign.

There's no questioning how dominant the Ole Miss product has been since entering the league in 2019. He's posted three straight 900-yard campaigns to begin his career, including a 1,300-yard showing in 2020.

That doesn't mean a Metcalf extension is a given for Seattle, though. There's speculation the Seahawks may not want to pay up to keep Metcalf long term, especially with a giant hole at quarterback currently.

Trade rumors have started to swirl in recent days as more big-name wideouts get paid. It remains to be seen if Metcalf becomes a featured part of Seattle's rebuild or gets his first big payday from another team.
