As the start of the 2021 NFL season nears, the Dallas Cowboys aren't done tinkering their roster. Aside from cuts to be made to get down to Tuesday's 53-man limit, the Cowboys may be in the market for a punter.

According to reports, Dallas has been linked to a potential trade for four-time Pro Bowler Johnny Hekker.

Johnny Hekker Cowboys

Hekker, a current member of the Los Angeles Rams, is currently battling for the starting punter job thanks to the offseason addition of Corey Bojorquez. The latter has impressed throughout camp and may leave Hekker without a starting role on Los Angeles' roster.

Another factor in play is Hekker's current spot on the team's reserve/COVID-19 list. The Rams may be better served to find a trade option for Hekker to return some sort of capital. If Bojorquez beats Hekker out for the job, releasing the Pro Bowl punter for no return is a definite loss for Los Angeles.

Hekker would become one of four recent Rams special team players to join the Cowboys in the past two years including current kicker Greg Zuerlein and Jake McQuaide and John Fassel. In nine NFL seasons, Hekker has appeared in 144 straight games while averaging 46.9 yards per punt.
