3 Quarterbacks the Colts Should Target At No. 21 in 2021 NFL Draft

Future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Philip Rivers announced his retirement this morning. Though he was only with the Indianapolis Colts for one year, he'll leave a huge hole at QB in his wake. Indianapolis doesn't even have Jacoby Brissett under contract for next season, and that all but guarantees Chris Ballard will need to add a new signal-caller via either free agency or the 2021 NFL Draft.
On the clock at No. 21 overall in the first round, here are three QBs the Colts could select in the NFL Draft.
Colts NFL Draft Rumors
3. Mac Jones, Alabama Crimson Tide
The Colts roster is ready to win now and Mac Jones might be this classes' most NFL-ready passer not named Trevor Lawrence. He doesn't have the ceiling that some of his peers in this class do, but he should have one of the highest floors. That makes it tough to envision him being on the board at No. 21 overall, but Ballard has more than enough resources to trade up if needed. Plus, he's projected to be a mid-first-round pick, so falling to No. 21 overall isn't exactly out of the realm of possibility.
2. Trey Lance, North Dakota State Bison
At the beginning of the season, Trey Lance was pretty much the consensus No. 3 QB in this class. Scouts loved his Josh Allen-like potential, as he's got a cannon for an arm and can dominate with his legs as well. But he only played one (underwhelming) game in 2020 as North Dakota State cancelled its season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now where he lands is anyone's guess. If he is on the board at No. 21, he'd be an incredible steal for the Colts. Widely considered to be a project, Indianapolis would be one of the best landing spots imaginable for Lance. He'd play with a young, talented offense that features an elite O-Line and has QB whisperer Frank Reich calling the shots. And from the Colts' perspective, Lance would raise the ceiling of this team in a way that no QB has since Andrew Luck retired.
1. Kyle Trask, Florida Gators
Of all the names on this list, Kyle Trask is the safest bet to actually be on the board when Indianapolis is on the clock. Trask's appeal would be similar to Jones'. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound QB has ideal size for the position and had a meteoric rise in 2020. The senior threw for 4,283 yards with 43 TDs to 8 INTs across 12 appearances this season. He's big, has a solid-enough arm and you can't question his toughness. That should make him a great fit with the Colts.
