After a first few weeks of the 2019 men's college basketball regular season defined not by one, but two historic upsets, we're already getting a strong whiff of March Madness and it's only the second day of December.
This relatively wackier start to the season doesn't end on the court either, as the latest AP Top-25 Poll for college basketball has shaken things up quite a bit as far as the oddsmakers are concerned, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
AP Top-25 Poll College Basketball Week 5
Louisville has climbed to the top spot in the country after the Cardinals opened the season at No. 5. They're the only team that opened the season in the top-5 of the preseason AP Top-25 Poll, that hasn't suffered a loss as we hit Week 5.
The Cardinals also moved up to the top spot in the odds to win the 2020 March Madness title, climbing from +1400 to +900, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
However, beyond No. 1 Louisville is where the disparity in the rankings and the odds begin. After dropping two of its first seven games on the year, No. 12 Michigan State (+900) remains tied with Louisville for the best title odds.
No. 8 Kentucky comes in close behind the two-way tie at the top, with +1000 odds, while No. 10 Duke still boasts the fourth-best odds, at +1100. No. 7 North Carolina has the fifth-best title odds, at +1200, and, despite being the nation's No. 2-ranked team, Kansas is behind the Tar Heels with +1400 odds. There's also two top-5 teams in No. 5 Virginia (+1500) and No. 3 Maryland (+1700) next up in the odds.
As for the biggest leap, previously unranked Michigan skyrocketed all the way into the No. 4 spot in the AP Top-25 Poll, with the Wolverines watching their title odds on FanDuel Sportsbook move from +4500 to +2000.
While there's still plenty of basketball left to be played, this 7-0 Michigan team is certainly one to keep an eye on after the Wolverines bagged back-to-back victories over then-No. 6 UNC and then-No. 8 Gonzaga in the 2019 Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament.
