The Green Bay Packers are off to a slow start, sitting at just 3-2 through the first five weeks of the 2022 NFL season. The offense has looked stagnant, at times, especially while Green Bay still works through the kinks of replacing Davante Adams' production with a crop of unexperienced weapons.

One of those options is rookie Christian Watson, who has been hampered by ongoing hamstring injuries to start the year. News around the talented second-round draft pick took an interesting turn on Friday afternoon, per a report from Packers insider Matt Schneidman.

According to Schneidman, head coach Matt LaFleur and his staff are considering a drastic move to address Watson's health.

The Packers have considered actually shutting down the rookie wideout "for some time" to help him fully recover from the hamstring ailments.

This move could easily come out of left field for some Packers fans, considering Watson's only missed one game up to this point and hasn't officially been added to the injury report. But, a closer look at the lineups reveal why Watson's been able to muster just 7 receptions for 52 yards.

Watson's snap count has been trending in the wrong direction ever since Week 1, where he played a high mark of 66%. That number fell to 32% in Week 2 before he was deemed inactive for Week 3. Watson hasn't eclipsed 30-plus snap percentage since then.

Meanwhile, the fellow rookie Romeo Doubs increased his snap count from 57% in Week 1, to 85-plus percent in each of the past three contests. As a result, Doubs leads all Packers wideouts with 29 targets, 22 receptions while adding 213 yards.

This is a situation worth monitoring. Watson did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday per the Packers' weekly injury report. Green Bay hosts the New York Jets in Week 6, a matchup the team is favored by 7.5 points per NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
