New York Jets tight end Chris Herndon will return to game action in Week 6 against Dallas Cowboys, having completed his four-game suspension to start the season. His addition is desperately needed for a Jets team averaging 9.8 points per game (the second lowest mark in the NFL), and he can be expected to quickly return to the conversation as a starting tight end option in fantasy football.

In fantasy football leagues in which he is available, Herndon is a priority waiver wire add heading into Week 6. There have been a handful of surprising performances so far (Austin Hooper, Darren Waller and Will Dissly to name a few), but tight end is still fantasy's thinnest position, and a player like Herndon can be useful to a number of teams in need of an upgrade.

Herndon was selected by the Jets in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Miami. He had a fairly productive rookie season, catching 39 of 56 targets for 502 receiving yards and four touchdowns. It was good enough to finish as the TE15 in standard scoring leagues, and Herndon will now be entering year two with an expected larger role in the Jets' passing game. Despite having a poor top TE option in journeyman Ryan Griffin through the first four games, the Jets have played Griffin for 93.5 percent of their offensive snaps, and Herndon should quickly unseat the veteran.

While Herndon (owned in just 29 percent of Yahoo! Fantasy Football Leagues) makes a lot of sense as a pickup for tight end hungry teams, some of his upside does hinge on the return of Sam Darnold from mononucleosis. Darnold was unable to suit up in Week 5 after the Jets' bye, and he should be considered questionable for next week's action.

Even if Darnold doesn't suit up in Week 6, though, the Cowboys have given up top-10 fantasy production to opposing tight ends to start the year, and Herndon could be a viable starting option in his first game back. Once Darnold returns, fantasy players who add (or have been stashing) Herndon can feel especially good about locking him into their starting lineup.
