The Los Angeles Chargers lost defensive coordinator Renaldo Hill to the Miami Dolphins on Monday, where he will join Vic Fangio's impressive staff. This leaves the Chargers with a big hole, but they quickly filled it internally.

The Chargers are promoting Derrick Ansley to the DC role, while Tommy Donatell will take over secondary/pass-game coordinator roles.

Head coach Brandon Staley is still expected to call the plays. This will be Ansley's first opportunity in the NFL as a defensive coordinator. He's been the team's secondary coach for the last two seasons.

Staley must have a ton of confidence in these internal hires. Staley himself enters next season firmly on the hot seat after multiple consecutive lackluster finishes to the Chargers' season.

The Chargers' defense ranked No. 23 in the NFL last season, an area that needs clear improvement this offseason if Los Angeles expects to be a contender next season.
