The St. Louis Cardinals currently own the final NL wild Card spot thanks to an offense that averages 4.73 runs per game (T-No. 7 in MLB). The return of outfielder Tyler O'Neill could boost that number even higher. He is set to start a Triple-A rehab assignment with the Memphis Redbirds on Monday.

Tyler O'Neill Injury Update

O'Neill has been out of action since June 20 as he works his way back from a left hamstring injury. The plan is for him to DH on Monday night before a team off day on Tuesday. O'Neill will then play left field on Wednesday and Thursday before having being reevaluated for a possible MLB comeback.

If all goes well, Cardinals fans could see O'Neill's name back in the lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies next weekend. That would likely send the combination Lars Nootbar and Conner Capel back to bench roles. Of course, speedy outfielder Harrison Bader remains on the IL as well (foot injury).

After finishing eighth in NL MVP voting last season, O'Neill is slashing .241/.292/.361 across 45 games played in 2022. He has also racked up 22 runs scored, 4 home runs and 28 RBI. Seeing O'Neill tap into the power he possessed in 2021 (career-high 34 home runs) would be a welcome sight in St. Louis.

For now, the Cardinals will look to make up ground on the team right in front of them in the Wild Card standings. St. Louis will take on the Atlanta Braves in a four-game series starting on Monday night. They have odds set at +144 to grab a road win in that matchup, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
