Browns Lose Young Coach to New Offensive Coordinator Gig

The NFL's coaching carousel continues to spin round and round as the offseason marches on. The Cleveland Browns' staff underwent some changes almost immediately following the end of the regular season, with defensive coordinator Joe Woods being replaced by Jim Schwartz.

Now Kevin Stefanski will need to fill another opening after losing a coach to a promotion with another team.

Drew Petzing has been hired by the Arizona Cardinals to be their new offensive coordinator, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Petzing was Cleveland's quarterbacks coach in 2022, and his work has led to an even bigger opportunity at just 35 years old.

Petzing originally entered the coaching ranks as an intern with the Browns in 2013. He then spent 2014-2019 with the Minnesota Vikings, serving in various roles before Stefanski lured him back to Cleveland in 2020.

The New York native operated as the Browns' tight ends coach for two seasons, then he received a promotion this past year to QBs coach. Given how well Jacoby Brissett looked in his 11 starts, it's no wonder Petzing's drew interest from around the league.

Whoever Cleveland hires to succeed Petzing will be faced with an important task of helping Deshaun Watson regain his form in 2023.
