The Denver Broncos walked away from the 2022 NFL Draft nine new prospects despite not having a first-round pick after using it to acquire quarterback Russell Wilson. Even though the Broncos were content with their haul, that didn't stop ESPN's Mel Kiper from disrespecting him with his draft grades.

Kiper awarded the Broncos with a B- grade for their efforts. That may not look like a bad grade at first glance, but it was actually tied for the third lowest that Kiper gave to any team this year.

Denver Broncos NFL Draft Grade

Kiper lists Oklahoma outside linebacker Nik Bonitto (No. 64) and UCLA tight end Greg Dulcich (No. 80) as the Broncos' only noteworthy prospects.

Bonito recorded 39 total tackles (15.0 for a loss) and 7.0 sacks in 11 games with the Sooners last season and should see some playing time right away. Meanwhile, Dulcich is the offensive TE that the Broncos needed after trading Noah Fant to the Seattle Seahawks as a part of the aforementioned Wilson deal.

Kiper listed cornerback as one of Denver's pre-draft needs and while they did select Damarri Mathis (No. 115) and Faion Hicks (No. 232), neither man has game-changing upside. The Broncos also needed an offensive tackle and only ended up drafting a center in Washington's Luke Wattenberg (No. 171).

Needless to say, the Broncos need to do a good job in developing their prospects to prove Kiper wrong. The organization has done well with its young players' development in recent years. Time will tell if that continues going forward.

The Broncos are expected to be in the thick of the Super Bowl LVII hunt and getting early contributions from their rookies can help them in their quest. FanDuel Sportsbook is currently giving Denver +1600 odds (T-No. 6) to win it all next season.
