Broderick Jones Scouting Report
Jones redshirted as a freshman at Georgia, appearing in only two games as a reserve. He then made a name for himself in 2021 by making the SEC All-Freshman Team as he allowed only 2 sacks and 1 quarterback hit in over 400 snaps played. It was the 2022 season where Jones came alive, though.
The Georgia native started all 15 games for Bulldogs, giving up a not a single sack in 933 snaps. Jones played a crucial role on an offense that averaged 502.9 yards per game (No. 6 in NCAA) and helped head coach Kirby Smart's team win back-to-back titles. He excelled as a reliable left tackle.
Highlighted strengths for Jones center around his athleticism. His underrated speed for his size (6-foot-5 and 311 pounds) allows him to hunt down second and third-level defenders on outside rushing plays. His agility gives him the ability to mirror pass rushers in terms of their inside/outside moves.
Knocks on Jones' game include the fact that he only has 19 college starts to his name. His technique is not polished as a result and his balance could use some work considering he tends to bend at his waist. Overall, the talent Jones possesses lines up him up as an immediate starter at the NFL level.
Broderick Jones NFL Draft Prediction
It's no wonder Jones continues to creep higher and higher as mock drafts get released before the end of April rolls around. Any team in need of pass protection is going to do their homework on the Georgia standout given the mix of speed and power he showed on one of the best NCAA offenses.
Jones is a lock to be selected in the first round, but his landing spot will depend on whether teams have the time to work through his issues in run-blocking schemes. That lines up the Steelers as great option as they don't need to rush Jones' development with a young QB like Kenny Pickett at the helm.
The Steelers' hole along the offensive line isn't as major as a team like the New York Jets, but Jones could come in and give projected starter Dan Moore Jr. a run for his money right away. Shoring up the offensive line would put Pittburgh in great spot moving forward in what remains a tough AFC North.
Prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers (Round 1, 17 overall)
