Braves Top Prospect Set for First Spring Training Start

The MLB's Opening Day is just over a week away and teams around baseball must finish taking stock of their rosters, especially the possibility of talented prospects joining the fold.
The Atlanta Braves will do just that on Monday when top pitching prospect Spencer Strider will make his first Spring Training start.

Strider has already made one appearance in this abbreviated ramp-up to regular-season baseball, throwing just 2.0 innings. He will earn a start against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, his first of the Spring.

Strider's performance as a starter will continue to factor into his role with the organization. A 2020 draftee from Clemson, Strider has already jumped up the Braves' prospect list. He ranks No. 2 overall and as the franchise's top pitching arm after an impressive progression in 2021.
The 23-year-old began his 2021 campaign at Low-A ball, dazzling through every level before finishing the year at the MLB level. He touts an electric fastball that touches routinely in the upper-90s and figures to be a promising member of the Braves' pitching staff for years to come.
Atlanta is still weighing his immediate future in the starting rotation or near the back end of the bullpen and Monday's start may figure into that decision.
