Blake Freeland Scouting Report

Freeland was a multisport athlete in high school and landed at BYU as a 3-star recruit. He immediately stepped into a starting role for the Cougars as a freshman, appearing in seven games.

Freeland finished his collegiate career with 41 starts and 44 games played overall. He was even named an AP Third Team All-American in 2022.

The Utah native is an absolute mammoth at 6-foot-8 and 302 pounds. He used this size to excel in the run game, where he regularly created holes and got out to the second level. He's also a serious athlete, adding to his potential at the next level.

Freeland has some work to do as a pass protector, however. It's noted that he struggles when pass rushers take the inside edge on him, which is a weakness that will be exploited by NFL pros. He needs legit development in this phase of the game to become a well-rounded player.

Blake Freeland NFL Draft Prediction

Freeland's incredible frame and athletic abilities won't be ignored by front offices. There are likely several organizations around the league that believe they can help him improve in pass protection, which would suddenly make him a dangerous talent on the O-line.

The San Francisco 49ers are the exact kind of franchise that could help Freeland reach his full potential. His excellence in the run game would be a perfect fit for Kyle Shanahan's system, and he'd be afforded time to develop as a pass protector behind Trent Williams. After losing right tackle Jack McGlinchey in free agency as well, there's an obvious opportunity for Freeland to become an achor of this O-line for years to come.

Freeland's stock appears to vary significantly among experts right now. That may allow the 49ers to nab him at the end of third round.

Prediction: San Francisco 49ers (Round 3, 101st overall)
