Bills Get Encouraging Jordan Poyer Contract Update

Buffalo Bills fans can breathe a sigh of relief for now as safety Jordan Poyer will attend the team's mandatory minicamp this week. The veteran talent had recently skipped OTAs following his request for a contract extension. Poyer's current deal expires at the end of the 2022 season.

This is a great sign that a new contract may be imminent for the 31-year-old ballhawk. Buffalo has been in steady communication with Poyers' agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Kyle Lincoln, and is not shying away from the situation. Locking him down alongside Micah Hyde in the secondary is vital.

Poyer played a substantial role on a Bills squad that posted the best pass defense DVOA rating in the NFL last season. He logged 93 tackles (8.0 for loss), 3.0 sacks, 9 pass breakups and 5 interceptions in 16 games played. Poyer also acted as a team captain and his efforts even led to his first All-Pro nod.

The fact that Poyer has also stayed in touch with his teammates as well as defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier goes to show he's ready to put this all behind him. He's not the only one with an expiring contract, though, as tight end Dawson Knox and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds are in the same boat.
