The Houston Astros underwent a scary moment on Monday when All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve went down after colliding with Oakland Athletics first baseman Christian Bethancourt.
The seven-time All-Star remained on the ground for several moments, but somehow managed to play the bottom half of the inning before getting lifted.
Manager Dusty Baker shared an update on his veteran infielder following the game, adding some concern to this potential injury.
Jose Altuve Injury Update
Baker told reporters that Altuve "didn't look too good in the eyes" when he came back to the dugout after the collision. The Astros will conduct further concussion evaluations on Tuesday but Baker is "unsure if he'll play [today]."
Astros fans should pay close attention to further updates on Tuesday, with the hope that Altuve avoids the injured list.
Any sort of extended absence for Altuve cannot be understated. The heart and soul of the team, Altuve is slashing .286/.349/.556 and ranks second on the team with 10 home runs.
Houston plays the second game of their three-game set with Oakland on Tuesday. FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB Odds show the Astros as -136 moneyline favorites.
