Washington Football Team running back Antonio Gibson has not missed a single game due to injury this season, but seemingly re-aggravated a familiar turf toe injury last weekend. His status for Sunday Night Football in Week 16 remains up in the air after being labeled as a game-time decision.
That makes things tricky for fantasy football managers.
Antonio Gibson Fantasy Outlook
This shouldn't come as a major shock given the second-year pro did not practice at all this past week. Gibson's production was impacted by the same toe issue against the Philadelphia Eagles last week. He finished the game with 26 rushing yards on 15 carries and 39 receiving yards on 6 receptions.
Washington is fighting to keep its playoff hopes alive and need Gibson healthy in order to do so. He draws a tough matchup here, though. The Dallas Cowboys are allowing the fourth-fewest PPR fantasy points to opposing RBs, which includes just 8 total touchdowns (7 rushing & 1 receiving).
Fantasy managers still going strong in the playoffs likely cannot afford to sit Gibson this week. After all, the former Memphis standout averages 13.8 PPR fantasy points per game and ranks No. 13 at the position. However, the smart move is to have a backup option ready in case he is ruled out.
The one caveat is that you must have a backup plan if you're going to rely on Gibson. Since he doesn't play until Sunday night, most of your viable replacement options will probably have already played by then and thus be unavailable to start.
One solution is adding Washington backup Jaret Patterson after he rushed for 20 yards and a touchdown in limited time last week. This way you could start Gibson if he's active, and if he's not Patterson would at least be in line for a starting RB role, making him a fine replacement.
If he plays, Gibson checks in at RB11 in The Duel's Week 16 fantasy football rankings.
