It was all fun and games for New Orleans Saints fans a week ago, as Alvin Kamara trotted in for his sixth touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 16. Just a few days later however, the star running back has tested positive for COVID.
Kamara won't play this weekend, which is less crucial for NOLA, but the impact of this illness may even have playoff implications. The recovery time of COVID affects every person differently, and Kamara's status for the Wildcard Round of the 2020 NFL Playoffs is now in question.
Supposedly, Kamara has not exhibited any symptoms, but the 10-day quarantine could still force him to miss a Saturday playoff game. We have seen many instances of false positive tests this season, so nothing can be ruled out until more information is provided, but as of now, the deciding factor may be the NFL and their scheduling department.

In the event Kamara misses the first round, the Saints will hope to have Latavius Murray and/or Dwayne Washington present. Both are currently out for Week 17, listed as close contacts of Kamara. Ty Montgomery and practice squad RB Tony Jones will handle the duties in the meantime.

New Orleans is still a 5.5-point favorite this weekend over the Carolina Panthers, and they currently have the third best odds to win the Super Bowl (+750) on FanDuel Sportsbook. Alvin Kamara's status could end up influencing those numbers.
