Aaron Rodgers has arguably been the best quarterback in the NFL for the better part of the past decade. But Patrick Mahomes, the 2018 NFL MVP, could give him a run for his money, especially from a fantasy football perspective.

Following the best season ever by a fantasy quarterback, Mahomes is the top-rated QB, according to average draft position, in early 2019 fantasy football drafts while Rodgers continues to be either the second or third QB off the board, in most instances.

While many fantasy owners will default to drafting Mahomes, Rodgers could ultimately be the right play, as the Chiefs' QB bound to regress in 2019.

Rodgers played with an injured knee for much of 2018, and still put together a quality season for his fantasy owners, passing for 4,442 yards and 25 touchdowns to just two interceptions. Mahomes amassed 5,097 passing yards and 50 touchdowns during the record-breaking fantasy campaign he put up in his second year in the league. Additionally, the 23-year-old signal-caller racked up another 272 yards on the ground and scored two rushing touchdowns.

While Rodgers' numbers paled in comparison to what Mahomes did in 2018, a new head coach in Green Bay along with some new and/or improved weapons on offense could push the Packers' QB to the top spot come season's end.

That being said, it's easy to see why fantasy owners are incredibly high on Mahomes and why he continues to be the first QB selected in early 2019 fantasy football drafts. While a better season isn't out of the question for Rodgers, it's hard to think that anyone will outproduce Mahomes this coming season.

Overall, Mahomes may be the better pick on paper, depending what ultimately comes of Tyreek Hill's pending suspension, but you can't go wrong drafting Rodgers as your league's QB1 either.
