It's been a while since Ilya Kovalchuk played in New Jersey, five years in fact. Now, the former star is saying goodbye to the one thing still connecting him to the Garden State...his luxurious New Jersey mansion. 

Last offseason, Kovalchuk signed a fully guaranteed 3-year, $18.75-million contract with the Los Angeles Kings, which included a $13.15-million signing bonus and an annual average salary of $6.25 million.


His decision to place the house on the market came shortly after it was announced that a trade was brokered to send Kovalchuk from Los Angeles to Montreal.

Unfortunately, even if you could pony up the $18 million needed to purchase this majestic property, you'd still need a hefty surplus to pay the property taxes, which will cost you an extra $44,055 per year. 


Kovalchuk could be listing the house at the perfect time, with NFL free agency approaching in March, maybe a new signee for the Jets or Giants could be interested. They'll definitely have the money to spend.
