T.J. Hockenson Stats

The winner of the 2018 John Mackey Award for the nation's top tight end, Hockenson has made the interesting decision to declare for the draft as a redshirt sophomore after just two full seasons in Iowa City. He's the top-rated tight end in the draft at the moment right alongside fellow Hawkeye Noah Fant. A lot of what Hockenson brings to the field isn't in the box score as he's an earthshattering blocker, but he did still lead the team in receiving this season.

Hockenson finished the season with 49 receptions for 760 yards and six touchdowns. Not exactly top wideout numbers, but that's pretty good for a tight end and even more impressive for an offensive player at Iowa. He has great natural pass-catching skills and projects well at the next level as long as he can maintain his size.

T.J. Hockenson Draft Predictions

Cincinnati Bengals (No. 11), Tennesee Titans (No. 19), Oakland Raiders (No. 27), New England Patriots (No. 32)

Projecting where Hockenson will end up is tricky given how tight ends have been undervalued as of late. Many draft graders have Hockenson as a Top 10 player this year and Mel Kiper has him being picked No. 8 by the Lions in his latest mock draft. The Bengals need a top tight end after Tyler Eifert got injured again and Hockenson is so talented it might be worth a Top 15 pick. They're reportedly interested.

The Titans and Raiders could both use more weapons, particularly big ones. With Delanie Walker getting up there in years and recovering from an injury, Hockenson could be the tight end of the future in Tennesee. Oakland just needs offensive talent any way they can get it and Hockenson could easily replace Jared Cook in that offense.

In New England, the future of Rob Gronkowski is in doubt at the moment so the Patriots could look for the next best thing and draft the only guy getting direct Gronk comparisons. If he's still available at this point, Belichick will not let a tough, superb tight end escape his grasp.
