When Rex Burkhead came back into the New England Patriots' backfield, there was a slightly-less-than-optimistic chance everyone would be able to coexist and still get their touches. Well, here we are a few weeks later, and this is not what any fantasy owners of these players wanted to see heading into the finals.

James White is actually leading the team in receptions, targets, and receiving touchdowns. However, almost all of that production has come to a screeching halt since the fantasy playoffs started. For starters, White has been handling a massive workload this season as fellow members of the Patriots' backfield have gone down with injuries at different times.

Sony Michel has been doing a great job of running the football, going for 4.3 yards per carry this season. His downfall has surprisingly been fullback James Develin, who vultured Michel three times during Weeks 13-14. If Develin doesn't get those goal-line carries, Michel's fantasy numbers look exponentially better.

The re-addition of Burkhead into the fold hasn't helped Michel or White out much either. As we can see from yesterday's snap count of the Pats' backfield, Burkhead's 26-percent share certainly cuts into what their maximum potential could be.

We can point to a number of negatively-based factors going on with Michel and White, but the fact of the matter is the Patriots just need to feed them the rock more. It's no surprise either that the Patriots have lost each of their last two games while they figure out this chaotic backfield situation.

If you're in the fantasy football finals, probably best not to figure it out with them.
