4 Most Likely Landing Spots for Carmelo Anthony

The Carmelo Anthony experience in Houston has (reportedly) come to an end much faster than anyone could have predicted. The Rockets weren't expecting unstoppable scorer Nuggets-era Melo when they got him, but they certainly thought he'd be a helpful piece to the team. So far in 10 games he's averaged 13.4 points on 12.1 field goal attempts. He was supposed to provide some scoring off the bench, but not at such high volume. Apparently now if the Rockets release Carmelo, their chances of making the playoffs goes UP 19.9 percent. While Carmelo is still on the roster as of now, it's all but a matter of time before he gets released.

So that now begs the question of if anyone else will pick him up in 2018? Given his pedigree he'll almost certainly get one or two more chances in the NBA before he has to pack it up, but if he can't reinvent himself quickly he's going to be gone fast. So for perhaps the last time, here are four team that might take a chance on Melo.

Maybe Carmelo could return to his original team? The Nuggets have been one of the top teams in the West so far this season and could use more bench scoring, if Carmelo is okay with that. It would be a fun conclusion to a bizarre career for Anthony.

3. Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers might not be the contender that Carmelo wants to play for but they're a team he might actually be able to start for while also living in LA. The Clippers are in a weird place right now with their roster, but have had a decent start to the year. Perhaps they'd want to gamble on Carmelo.

2. Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers' roster is already an island of misfit toys. Why not add one more? Carmelo and LeBron are  friends and that might be enough to make the chemistry work. Carmelo would just have to be okay with taking more of a backseat than he already has. It makes sense for him from a lifestyle standpoint though.

1. Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers are probably the best fit for both  the team and the player. Reportedly the 76ers are already interested in signing him as well. After the trade for Jimmy Butler, Philadelphia is all in and they need someone to play the power forward spot off the bench. It works in theory. It would just be up to Melo to produce.
