49ers News: Deebo Samuel Minicamp & Contract Update

The Deebo Samuel saga has been one of the most dramatic parts of the 2022 offseason. With all the player movement we've seen and the holdups in contract negotiations over the last few months, it almost seemed like a foregone conclusion that Deebo would eventually find a new home before September.
But things have taken yet another turn. According to NFL insider Ian Rappaport, Deebo Samuel is reportedly expected to attend San Francisco 49ers mini camps today.

Deebo Samuel Mini Camp
Deebo's presence at mini camp would seem to signal that a deal is on the horizon. Negotiations likely aren't over yet, but 49ers fans may finally be able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Samuel was one of the best weapons in football last year, tallying 1,770 yards from scrimmage and 14 total touchdowns while averaging an NFL-best 18.2 yards per reception. Of course, he can do more than catch the football, as he turned 59 carries into 365 rushing yards.
The 26-year-old's dynamic versatility should be more valuable to San Francisco than ever in 2022. With Trey Lance taking over at QB, the 49ers need to do everything in their power to ensure he's set up for success. If indeed a deal is coming, you can bet it'll be a big one.
Even with the uncertainty around Samuel's return, FanDuel Sportsbook still views San Francisco as a contender. The 49ers are tied for the sixth-best Super Bowl odds in the league (+1600) and they're hefty -220 favorites to make the postseason.
