San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was sidelined for two weeks after suffering a high-ankle sprain in a Week 2 win over the New York Jets. He returned to action in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins, and it sure looked like something wasn't right. Garoppolo went 7-of-17 throwing the ball, getting intercepted twice and sacked three times before being removed from the game.
Fortunately, Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan has announced that Garoppolo didn't suffer any injury setbacks during the loss, meaning he could be back on the field against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 6.
This is almost bittersweet news for 49ers fans. It's great that Garoppolo didn't make his injury any worse, but it would also be a huge concern if trouble with his ankle didn't play a big role in what was one of the worst games of his career.
Injury woes are nothing new for Jimmy G either, having missed most of the 2018 season with a torn ACL before making an outstanding comeback in 2019.
If he's not fully healthy, Garoppolo could be in for an especially rough outing against Aaron Donald and the Los Angeles Rams, who are tied for the NFL lead with 20 sacks through five games.
After their embarrassing loss to the Dolphins, the 49ers are 3.5-point underdogs at home against the Rams, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
