The San Francisco 49ers have been fighting an uphill battle against injuries all season, especially in the backfield.

With Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. both on the injured reserve, some good news has finally come on Wednesday. Running back Tevin Coleman is back at practice, opening the window for a return from the injured reserve.

Coleman's far from a lock to suit up in a crucial Week 8 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, but the 21-day window to return means the 49ers expect to have him back soon.

While the backfield committee has put forth a valiant effort with Mostert and Coleman out, expect Coleman to reclaim the top spot in the group ahead of JaMycal Hasty and Jerick McKinnon upon returning.

Coleman never really had a chance to get going this season, but he ran for 544 yards and 6 scores as part of a three-headed 49ers backfield in 2019, and he boasts a career average of 4.3 yards per carry as well as 10.6 yards per reception.

At 4-3, the 49ers rank last in the hyper-competitive NFC West. Things are looking up in the Bay Area, however, and FanDuel Sportsbook have them as only slight underdogs (+118) to make the playoffs.
