After a legendary career with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers that will likely land him in the Hall of Fame some day, Philip Rivers has decided to give it at least one more go, signing a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts.
Over the course of his time with the Chargers, Rivers has been a nightmare for many opposing defenses. His passing yardage totals and touchdown numbers are truly something to behold. Having said that, he has been unusually dominant against these three franchises.
3. Buffalo Bills, 6-1
Here's one you might not expect, but the veteran has been near flawless against the Buffalo Bills. He's got a 6-1 record with a touchdown to interception ratio of 13:1 and a QB rating of 116.2 in his career against the Bills. He's only averaged 25.0 attempts per game across those seven matchups, his lowest against any opponent, but he's been remarkably efficient, averaging 9.06 adjusted yards per attempt (AY/A). For context, that would've been good for the third-best mark in the league last season.
2. Dallas Cowboys, 3-0
Rivers will wish he played the Dallas Cowboys more throughout his career, being that he has had his best quarterback rating against the franchise (123.8) and an undefeated record in three matchups. He has averaged 369.0 passing yards per game with 7 touchdowns to just 2 interceptions across those three games. One can't help but wonder what might have happened if the New York Giants never traded Rivers for Eli Manning after the draft.
1. Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders, 18-10
Rivers' most total wins have come against the Raiders over the years, with an 18-10 record against the team. Although he has had better stats in other matchups, the sheer wealth of wins over a division rival is something that deserves recognition. With over 7,100 total passing yards and 47 passing touchdowns (also his most against a specific team), Rivers has made his money off dominating the Raiders. His quarterback rating against the Silver and Black is currently a stellar 95.6.
