A few notable names are expected to switch teams by Thursday's NBA Trade Deadline, and Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry could very well be one of them. With Toronto's championship window expired and Lowry an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, sending him to a contender for assets would be a smart move for the Raptors.
Given that, here are three likely destinations for Lowry ahead of Thursday's deadline.
Kyle Lowry Trade Rumors
3. Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly already sniffed around a Lowry trade, and they could easily resume talks before Thursday. With LeBron James and Anthony Davis sidelined, the Clippers can easily pass their L.A. brethren for the No. 3 seed in the West, but a Lowry trade could propel them to the very top of the conference, giving them a favorable path to the Western Conference Finals. Lowry's $30.5 million contract would require some depth sacrifices for the Clippers, but a core with Lowry, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and Serge Ibaka would be hard to bet against in the playoffs.
2. Miami Heat
The Miami Heat are always players for big names, and the team is in the thick of the race to acquire Lowry. Averaging 17.7 points, 7.4 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game, Lowry would give this offense another playmaker who'd fit in flawlessly alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, making the Heat a nightmare to match up against. Miami has struggled at times this season, and it's hard to see this current squad making a repeat trip to the Finals with how they're playing, but a Lowry addition would be the exact kind of all-in move that solidifies this team's outlook heading into the playoffs.
1. Philadelphia 76ers
It wouldn't be a shock to anyone if Lowry ends up with the Philadelphia 76ers by the trade deadline. He's a Philly guy through and through, growing up there and starring for nearby Villanova in college. Now as a 14-year veteran, Lowry could make a triumphant return and bolster a 76ers squad that looks like a contender. He's a fantastic shooter (39.4% from deep this season), which is what Philadelphia needs alongside Ben Simmons. Plus, his scoring ability would help alleviate the load from Joel Embiid when he inevitably draws added attention in the playoffs. This team has struggled to get over the hump in past postseasons, but adding Lowry to the East's No. 1 seed is a great way to ensure the 76ers realize their championship potential.
