It remains to be seen how serious this failed physical was, and reports are that he could be retiring. But if Edelman wants to play next season, he should have plenty of interest in free agency — especially from teams that hope to be in Super Bowl contention.
With that in mind, here are the three most likely free agent destinations for Julian Edelman.
Julian Edelman Free Agent Destinations
1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tom Brady has had no trouble bringing in the players he wants to share the field with in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense, and this would be the most "of course" landing spot for Edelman. The two have undeniable chemistry, and Edelman caught 599 passes for 6,507 yards and 37 touchdowns from Brady in New England, with the duo winning three Super Bowl rings together.
2. Seattle Seahawks
Having Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf on the outside gives the Seattle Seahawks one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL. Both excel working downfield, and that would make Edelman the perfect complement. The Seahawks are stubbornly committed to running the ball, with a trio like Lockett, Metcalf and Edelman at wideout, perhaps they would be a little more willing to let Russell Wilson cook. That could also go a long way to keeping Russ happy.
3. Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are another team with no shortage of deep threats. Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce can get it done anywhere, and Demarcus Robinson and Mecole Hardman complement them as speedy downfield threats. Add Edelman working underneath, and this offense would be able to threaten defenses in every single area of the field.
