After a disappointing first-round exit from the NFL Playoffs, Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner is in a position to look forward, as he is a free agent this offseason. Conner is been a productive running back for Pittsburgh when healthy, but health has been a big issue. He has never put together a full season, and he missed three games this year.

With the majority of the NFL shifting to a committee backfield approach, landing in a committee could be the perfect situation for Conner, helping him stay a bit healthier. These are the three most likely free-agent destinations for Conner this offseason.

1. Atlanta Falcons

The Todd Gurley experiment in Atlanta did not seem to work this season. He is a free agent this offseason, and the Falcons will need to sign a starter somewhere. Conner is a capable runner and receiving option, like they hoped Gurley would be. It could be a cost effective signing for this team.

2. New York Giants

Conner has been injury prone, and so have Giants star running back Saquon Barkley. The Giants showed this season that they wanted to be a tough-minded football team that sets up the pass with the run. It seems like the Giants need to limit Barkley a bit next season in hopes of having him for the long run. Bringing in another established running back could help them execute this.

3. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers are a team whose offense runs through their running back committee. Three of these running backs are free agents this offseason, so they have a lot of decisions to make. Kyle Shanahan is good at putting specific skill sets in the right situations, so it is possible Conner is able to be an improved version of whatever they hoped Tevin Coleman would be last season.
