3 Best Wide Receiver Fits for the Colts in the Second Round of the NFL Draft
By michael obermuller

Almost a month ago, the Indianapolis Colts odds of drafting a wide receiver with their first pick in the 2020 NFL Draft (second-round selection) were overwhelming on FanDuel Sportsbook. Now, quarterback Jordan Love has surpassed all challengers as the Colts' most likely selection with their pick in the draft at +500 odds.

Still, it would not surprise anyone if the Colts went wide receiver with very little currently on their roster behind T.Y. Hilton and Zach Pascal. If they do, these three college football stars are the best fits for Indy.
3. Tee Higgins, Clemson
Though no longer the overall odds favorite to be the Colts' first pick in the draft, Tee Higgins still boasts the best odds among all WRs in the same category at +600. The Clemson man would be a tremendous fit for Indy, but it seems less and less likely that Higgins falls to the second round. Ranked fourth in this wide receiver class on WalterFootball, Higgins would be in the conversation for WR1 most drafts. With all the wide receiver needy teams at the back end of the first round, I just can't see Higgins slipping all the way to Indy in the second.
2. Denzel Mims, Baylor
The Colts need a big-bodied frame on the outside more than they need a speedy slot receiver. Hilton and 2019 draft pick Parris Campbell already provide speedy options that can play inside if need be, while Pascal is the only taller weapon at 6'2". That's why Higgins is such a perfect fit if he drops to the Colts. Sticking with that idea, Denzel Mims could be a nice contingency plan. The Baylor product is the same height as Pascal, but has been compared to Allen Robinson in his physical style of play. Scouts have either loved or hated Mims during the draft lead up, but I believe he fits what the Colts are looking for.
1. Chase Claypool, Notre Dame
While other options like Brandon Aiyuk and Jalen Reagor could be on the board, Chase Claypool is likely the best fit for Indianapolis because of his size. The Notre Dame product is both tall and physical with a 6-foot-4-inch frame at 240 pounds, which is bigger than both Higgins and Mims. He is also known for his trusty hands, which are some of the largest in the entire draft class at 10 inches. The Colts don't need another slot or burner the same way they need a red zone target on the outside with a massive frame, and Chase Claypool could very well be their guy.
