No. 5: Seattle Mariners - SIC score 90.1

Playing in their first postseason since 2001, the Mariners enter the Wild Card series against the Blue Jays with a key question mark in left field.

Former Reds outfielder Jesse Winker was scratched from the lineup Monday with neck stiffness and an MRI this week revealed a cervical disk bulge. He is likely done for the postseason. Backup left fielder Sam Haggerty is also out for the Wild Card round after suffering a groin strain in Monday’s loss to the Tigers.

That leaves Jarred Kelenic as the likely starter in left field. Taylor Trammell was added to the postseason roster to replace Winker.

Rookie of the Year favorite Julio Rodriguez recently came off the 10-day IL for a lower back injury, but will likely have no limitations in the postseason. If his back issue flares up he can manage it with a heating pad, as seen below.

Rodriguez hit .284 with 28 home runs, 75 RBIs and 25 stolen bases this season.

No.1: Houston Astros - SIC score 88.7

The biggest absence for the Astros is veteran outfielder Michael Brantley. He is out for the season after undergoing right shoulder surgery in mid-August. Houston acquired Trey Mancini to help account for that loss, but Mancini’s production has dipped since joining the Astros. He hit .171 with 8 home runs and 22 RBIs in 51 games with the Astros.

Left fielder Yordan Alvarez has been dealing with power-sapping soreness stemming from what the Pro Baseball Docs believe was a midseason hook of hamate injury.

Alvarez had just 1 home run with a .312 slugging percentage in August, but bounced back with 6 home runs in September and October while hitting .355.

Lance McCullers Jr. missed most of season with a flexor tendon strain and Justin Verlander missed a few weeks with a calf strain, but has been exceptional in his return from TJ surgery.

McCullers finished with a 2.27 ERA in 8 starts, while Verlander had an AL-leading 18 wins and a 1.75 ERA in 28 starts.

Mariners vs. Astros Series Odds

The Astros are favored -235 to win the series, while the Mariners are at +194, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Houston has the second best World Series odds at +350.
