As the offseason continues, Sports Illustrated is already looking right past the start of the 2021 NFL season as the publication begins to predict which players will make the Pro Bowl. When it comes to the New York Jets, the outlet is predicting that 25-year-old defensive end Carl Lawson will become a Pro Bowl player for the first time in his career.
The 2021 NFL season will be Lawson's first with the Jets after signing a three-year, $45 million contract with New York back in March. With him being paid that kind of money, it's no secret that the organization would love it if he were to make the Pro Bowl.

Lawson was taken by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Despite having 8.5 sacks with the Bengals in his rookie season, Lawson had to work his way up to becoming a starter.
Eventually, he achieved his goal last season, starting in 11 out of 16 games and finishing the campaign with 36 total tackles, 5.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. With the Bengals only recording a league-low 1.1 sacks per game in 2021, Lawson should have a lot more opportunities to increase his stats in the Jets' new-look defense under head coach Robert Saleh. Considering how the San Francisco 49ers averaged 3.2 sacks per game in 2019 (T-3rd) with Saleh as their defensive coordinator, it's not out of the question that Lawson could find himself having a career season.
Even if Lawson makes the Pro Bowl, the Jets are currently a long shot tomake the playoffs next season at +490 odds, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Even if they do qualify, New York is tied for the 3rd worst odds to win the Super Bowl at +10000.
