Saints Insider Reveals One Veteran on the Roster Bubble Heading Into Training Camp

NFL training camp is right around the corner, which means veterans and rookies alike are going to be battling it out for the last few roster spots available. That includes players on the New Orleans Saints, as team insider Mike Triplett recently revealed one veteran in danger of being cut before Week 1.
We already knew Sammy Watkins, Darius Slayton were no locks to make final roster. Add Gio Bernard and Andy Isabella to the list. https://t.co/Yuau906uBd

Triplett explained that Zack Baun enters training camp with his roster spot on the line. The Saints originally drafted the Wisconsin edge rusher in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft with hopes of turning him into impactful linebacker. However, that idea simply hasn't panned out at this point.
Baun has hardly been on the field during his NFL career, appearing in 8% of New Orleans' defensive snaps in 2020 and 17% of the defensive snaps in 2022. It's concerning because he has been healthy the entire time. Baun has been seeing action solely as a special teams contributor, instead.
To make matters worse for Baun, the Saints have continued to add to the LB position. Pete Werner was taken in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and D'Marco Jackson was selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Veteran Eric Wilson was also signed after posting 46 tackles in 2021.
Overall, Baun has racked up 42 tackles (1.0 for loss) in his NFL career and his efforts on special teams cannot be overlooked. It may not be enough to justify his lack of defensive prowess, though. New Orleans has odds set at +4000 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
