The Carolina Panthers made a big move on Monday by trading for New York Jets QB Sam Darnold. The hope is that Darnold can turn his disappointing play around in a new environment, now that he's surrounded by actual offensive weapons.
One of those weapons is Robby Anderson, who played with Darnold during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. However, Darnold's former teammate doesn't sound thrilled about a reunion.
Anderson appears to be in total shock over his old QB joining the Panthers. He seems to not even be able to fathom the trade happening since it was the "last thing" he expected to hear. Maybe when the news finally sinks in he'll be more excited. For now, he sounds like an ex who thought their old relationship was already behind them.
Weirdly, Darnold and Anderson had success together in New York before the wideout departed for Carolina. If anything, Anderson should be in for even more looks as the QB gets settled into his new environment.
Anderson set career highs in targets (136), receptions (95) and yards (1,096) last season along with 3 TDs. He headlines a receiving corps with DJ Moore, David Moore and Dan Arnold that should hopefully help Darnold showcase why he was the No. 3 overall pick in 2018.
