Following a massive shakeup in the NBA MVP odds due to injuries to Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and Philadelphia 76ers 7-footer Joel Embiid, the MVP discussion has turned into a two-man race. Nikola Jokic (-280) has extended his lead, but Embiid (+270) remains a viable contender in the current odds to win NBA MVP on FanDuel Sportsbook.
LeBron (+4200) remains out with injury, and he's fallen way off the pace in the MVP race. LeBron won't return until close to the playoffs starting in early May. Also falling further behind for MVP are Giannis Antetokounmpo (+1600), James Harden (+2500) and Damian Lillard (+3000).
The 7-foot Nikola Jokic has remained healthy and continued to shine while leading the Denver Nuggets (36-20). The star center is averaging 26.1 points, 11.0 rebounds and a remarkable 8.8 assists per game as a big man. Jokic is hitting career highs in shooting percentage (56.7%) and free throws (85.5%).
Embiid leads the 76ers with 30.0 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. The center is also shooting a career-high 51.6% and making 85.5% free throws. Embiid missed three weeks with a foot injury, and returned on April 3.
In three games since April 12, Embiid has scored 36, 39 and 36 points in three Sixers victories to get Philadelphia (39-17) back on top of the Atlantic division in front of the Brooklyn Nets, who are favored to win the NBA title.
