The 2020-21 NBA season is still fairly young, but many of the odds around the season-long awards are beginning to take shape. While a handful of players have enjoyed nice starts to their rookie careers, Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball has stood out above the rest, and the odds now reflect that.
Entering this week, Ball is now the odds-on favorite to take home the award (-210). After narrowly missing out on a triple-double against the Pelicans on Friday, Ball came back the following night and became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double in Charlotte's game against the Atlanta Hawks.
The closest in the odds behind Ball is Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton (+600), and then No. 1 overall pick Anthony Edwards and No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman are tied at +800.
Following that top four, there is a big jump. Orlando Magic guard Cole Anthony and New York Knicks forward Obi Toppin both come in at +1800. Toppin came into the season second in the odds, but suffered an injury early in the season and has been out of action for roughly two weeks.
While it's still early, LaMelo is looking like a real star. If he keeps playing at this level, it will be hard to take this award away from him.
