When San Francisco 49ers running backs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman went down with knee injuries, Jerick McKinnon was forced to step up and start in the backfield. With Coleman placed on injured reserve (IR) and Mostert declared out this week, McKinnon is set up for another big workload.

Although he may split time with Jeff Wilson Jr., McKinnon should have enough touches to be worthy of starting in fantasy in a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4.

Jerick McKinnon Fantasy Outlook

If last week's win against the New York Giants proved anything, it was that two running backs can coexist in this 49ers' revamped offense. McKinnon finished with 78 total yards on 17 touches and scored a touchdown, while Wilson finished with 69 yards on 15 touches and scored two touchdowns.

Heading into Week 4, McKinnon should be heavily relied upon by quarterback Nick Mullens as he continues to get more comfortable leading the offense. He doubled the snap count of Wilson last week and was clearly the running back the team trusted the most. McKinnon played 48-of-77 (62%) offensive snaps, while Wilson played just 23 (30%).

McKinnon faces an interesting matchup in Week 4 against an Eagles defense known for stopping the run. The rank No. 8 in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game (106.3), but they are also giving up 29.0 points per game this season (No. 22 in the NFL).

The opportunity is there for McKinnon as he is a threat to run or catch the ball out of the backfield and has proven to be a red zone threat as well (3 TDs in 2020).

McKinnon checks in as the No. 19 running back in our Week 4 fantasy football rankings and should be able to produce RB2 numbers this week and moving forward until Mostert returns.
